Mission and Vision

Our Vision

Our college believes that Kurdistan has been, since time immemorial, and will remain an agricultural country in the first place, and because agriculture is so important, for its own sake first and for other economic sectors in the country secondly, so our college believes that there is no real opportunity for the advancement of the national economy or any of its productive or service sectors except by starting first with the development of the agricultural sector Perhaps the first and most important step in this direction is the preparation of human cadres who believe in the importance of agriculture and are qualified educationally, scientifically and practically to translate this belief into a tangible reality represented by the dissemination of non-traditional ideas and practices in agricultural production in particular and in rural life in general by bringing about desired behavioral changes in the knowledge and ideas of rural people and in their skills, field and life practices, and their values and attitudes towards things and situations. From this clear vision, our college formulated its noble mission. By aligning with international accreditation standards and the Bologna Process, we strive to develop globally competitive graduates capable of driving scientific and technological advancements for a sustainable future.

Our Mission

The College of Agricultural Engineering Sciences at Salahaddin University-Erbil is committed to delivering high-quality education and promoting research in agriculture and applied sciences. Our mission is to prepare students with a strong foundation in scientific principles, practical field experience, and project management skills necessary to become knowledgeable and capable agronomists. We focus on cultivating critical thinking, innovation, and hands-on expertise that align with the evolving needs of the agricultural sector. Through modern teaching methods, research excellence, and active collaboration with the private sector and academic institutions, we aim to bridge the gap between theory and practice. Our programs are designed to equip graduates with the competencies required to address agricultural challenges and contribute to sustainable development. We emphasize the importance of innovation, environmental responsibility, and community engagement in all our activities. The College plays a vital role in advancing the agricultural, technological, and economic development of the Kurdistan Region and beyond. By fostering a culture of academic integrity, interdisciplinary research, and strong partnerships, we aspire to be a center of excellence that supports both local and regional progress in agriculture and applied sciences.

Our History

The College of Agricultural Engineering Sciences – Salahaddin University was established in 1968, then moved to Erbil in 1981, and then closed in 1987 by a political decision against Kurdistan of the previous Iraqi regime, and all its equipment was transferred to other colleges of the university. In 1995-1996, the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) decided to open the College of Agriculture for the second time. It initially consisted of animal resource and plant production departments. When it was established its name was College of Agriculture then its name has changed to College of Agricultural Engineering Sciences. It now consists of eight scientific departments: animal resources, food technology, plant protection, field crops and medicinal plants, soil and water, forestry, horticulture and landscaping design, and fish health and production. Today, the College of Agricultural Engineering Sciences is dedicated to delivering high-quality education and advancing scientific research. Its graduates contribute to various sectors: animal production, food technology, landscape design, field crops, medicinal plants, plant protection, fish health and production, soil properties, water properties, field design and management, forestry, education, and environmental sciences, playing a crucial role in the development of agriculture in the Kurdistan Region. Practical lessons for undergraduate students, research for postgraduate students and research for our staff are conducted in our college fields in Grda Rasha, which covers an area of more than 200 acres. The Grda rasha field consists of horticulture products, ideal forestry, honey fields, poultry halls, cow halls, sheep and goat halls, quail halls, a feed factory and a dairy factory.
