On Thursday, 29 January 2026, the Department of Soil and Water, College of Agricultural Engineering Sciences, Salahaddin University–Erbil, organized a scientific symposium in celebration of World Soil Day under the theme “Healthy Soil for Healthy Cities.”
The symposium was held in the presence of the Dean of the College, Assistant Professor Dr. Joshan Majid Asngar, the Assistant Dean, Assistant Professor Dr. Ayub Younis, and the Head of the Department of Soil and Water, Dr. Hawar Razvanchy, along with academic staff members from the College and the Department.
World Soil Day is a globally recognized occasion celebrated annually to raise awareness about the importance of soil conservation and the urgent need to protect soil resources from pollution and degradation.
The event commenced with a moment of silence in honor of the martyrs, followed by the national anthem. A video highlighting solidarity with the resistance in the West of Kurdistan was then presented. Subsequently, the Dean of the College delivered an opening speech, followed by a welcoming address by the Head of the Department, who emphasized the significance of World Soil Day and sustainable soil management.
As part of the scientific program, several staff members from the Department of Soil and Water presented seminars showcasing recent research findings in various fields of soil science. The seminars were delivered by:
